Wellen

Wellen is a surf-inspired brand that’s rooted in Northern California’s wild coastline and a global surfing lifestyle. When I started with Huckberry, I saw the potential in Wellen and took it under my wing. Over the years, I’ve helped bring some of our core programs and campaigns to life, including our sustainability-focused collections like Seawool, the Pineapple collection, and hemp apparel.

Made from oyster shells.

Wellen’s Seawool program is at the core of the brand’s ethos. Seawool thread is spun from recycled plastic that’s then wound through pulverized oyster shells.

Oysters are farmed and consumed like crazy all over the world. There are some 4 million tons of used shells out there. And, unfortunately, everyone knows what plastic is doing to the oceans. Seawool taps into the circular economy to reduce waste while combining the best of wool and performance fabrics.

As it naturally regulates heat, lighter layers like our Seawool Henley or Hoodie are cool enough for sunny days but also to warm you up after a surf. The oyster shells make Seawool anti-static, moisture-wicking and even odor resistant.
